Not everybody is a runner. There are a lot of people out there who hate running and would do any other type of cardio activity. I am one of those people. I didn’t always hate running however. I grew up playing soccer so I had to like it. As I grew up I started hitting the gym a little bit more than the road. I grew to only do cardio during athletic activities such as pick-up soccer, football, and basketball games.
Fast forward a few years, being 27 I realized that I don’t have the metabolism like I used to. I used to be able to get away with not running but after leaving the personal training profession behind a few years ago I realized that I don’t look like the athlete that could run for a whole game without feeling back pain or get winded early. I had to make a change so I put on my Skora running shoes and decided to give it a go.
It was a sunny day and I was at a friends house so the route I was running was unfamiliar. Right when I started running the first 100 yards I noticed the elevation change. To be honest I’m a little too out of shape to be running a route with a bunch of elevation changes and that’s exactly what I did. I tried to get into a comfortable stride but with every elevation change I couldn’t find a consistent pace. At some points the elevation was so random that I was dragging my feet. Another thing that really started bothering me was my back and my hamstring on my posterior right side started giving me a lot of pain. It felt like somebody was punching me in my kidney.
I finally rounded the block to head back home. It was starting to flatten but my back was now hindering my stride. All of a sudden, BOOM! I toppled over tripping over an uneven sidewalk. I tried to do a ninja roll, turning my body and rolling on my right shoulder as much as I could. I sat there for a few minutes, kind of embarrassed at what just occurred. I looked at my left knee and it was already streaming a lot of blood. I took a look around not because I was dazed but to make sure nobody was looking. My watch counted 7 minutes into my run when I took a tumble.

I sat there long enough to where the pain in my back decreased a little bit. I made it back to the house with blood streaming down my left leg, my hands both bloody, my left wrist swelling up, and my right shoulder all scraped up. I looked at my Skora Running shoes and there was no blood stain or signs of my “ninja” roll. In the words of the great Ice Cube, “today was a good day.”
